How to Place Your Orders
New Representative Series
Placing your first Avon Order - It will be tempting to place your first order right away to get your hands on all the goodies Avon has to offer. Do not place your first order until you have talked to the person who signed you up, otherwise known as your mentor or upline. They will thoroughly acquaint you with what the current incentives are. A good leader will make this clear to you from the start and may have even used the current incentives to help interest you towards starting your business.
Avon Samples - Don't get too carried away with the samples when you first start. It will be very tempting to buy as many as possible but try to refrain. Going overboard with samples, demos, and purchases for yourself before you have built your business and customer base will mean you have more money going out than you do coming in. This can give new reps the impression that they are somehow failing or being scammed by their business. This is obviously not the case. It is simply a matter of basic accounting. Don't spend more than you make and spend even less if you want to make a profit. Want to buy more? Then you have to expand your customer base and your leadership recruits.
Avon Introduction Booklet - Once you get your kit, read the introduction booklet that comes with it. It's a guide to how some of the more basic stuff works. There is a place in the booklet for you to fill out "People You Know". Make sure you fill it out as best you can so you have a starting point to work from when figuring out who to give your first brochures to.
Avon Terminology - Brush up on some of the most used Avon Terms and their Meanings to get a better understanding of your business and how it works. This will also help you know what other reps are talking about or trying to communicate in Facebook groups.
Avon University Online Courses - You will also want to start using Avon University as soon as you can to get more in depth information and tutorials on how to do things within your business. Avon University gives you the opportunity to educate yourself about the Avon product line in order to be a well-informed rep and thereby building confidence in your current and future customers. Customers who trust you equal more orders which in turn equals more money in your pocket. Also, your Mentor, the person you signed up under should give you all kinds of pointers and support. You'll get emails filled with informational documents you can print out, and lots of incentives! If that isn't the case though, refer to the Facebook Groups section below or keep checking back to my blog for updated information, ideas, and support!
Avon RPS Schedule - You will receive a RPS sheet that is basically just a grid of all the start and end dates of each campaign for your particular cycle. There are a total of 10 RPS schedules. Once you know what your RPS cycle is, you then will know when your orders will be due. You can find out which RPS schedule you are on by going to your profile on youravon.com. Your orders need to be placed by midnight the day they are due in order to avoid late charges. Each campaign lasts 2 weeks.
Avon Brochures - Put your name and contact info on the back of your brochures and start handing them out to people. Start with the people you wrote down on your "People You Know" list from your information booklet. If you are only working with the brochures your kit provided you for each of the next 2 campaigns, then you are going to probably want to practice the share and take back method until you can get more brochures. If you have a Mentor or a DM (district manager), most times they would be more than happy to give you extra brochures to hand out.
Avon eStore - This step is important. Set up your free Avon eStore through youravon.com under the Web Office tab. The site walks you right through the process.
The awesome thing about your eStore is that you can send people there to shop instead of in person with you and they will get their order shipped directly to their door. You don't have to spend your time or gas money delivering their order, if they want to return something, they do it directly through Avon. You don't have to deal with the hassle of return fees, and your customers can take advantage of the constant online deals and incentives (free shipping, free gift w/ purchase, percentage off order, etc.) that Avon offers that are exclusive to online orders only.
There is an alternative to shopping your eStore and having it delivered directly to the customer (direct delivery). You can give your customers the option of choosing to have their order delivered to their door by mail or delivered by you in person. You can turn this feature on or off in your web office. If you choose to have this option available to your customers, be aware that this does not place their order with Avon. Their order gets sent to your cart in your back office to be turned in with the rest of your orders at the end of the campaign. They have not paid for their order yet. You will still have to collect payment from your customer. It is up to you if you want to set up payment before you send in their order or if you are okay with waiting for payment upon delivery.
Avon eStore Address - It is important that you keep a few things in mind when deciding on your eStore URL. The URL is the web address to your personal online Avon store. You will decide this as you are going through the process of setting up your online eStore in your web office. You will be asked what to put at the end of youravon.com/yourchoicehere. Make sure you give this some thought because even though you can change it whenever you want, it isn't advisable to do so. Once you start sharing links to your eStore via brochures/literature, email, social media, and possibly blogging, you are going to want those links to continue working. If you change your URL, those links will become broken and your current customers as well as potential new customers won't be able to find you using those links. You can go back and change the links in some cases but wow, what a chore!
Avon will recommend using a variation of your name in most cases. Consider if your name is long, or difficult to spell. Maybe it makes more sense to go with a first initial and then your last name. Maybe you don't want to use your name at all but something beauty related instead. It is completely up to you and as long as nobody else has used it, the sky is the limit.
Avon Groups on Facebook - These groups are specifically for Avon Reps only and provide you with a place to share ideas, ask questions, post information, and just get some support and inspiration. Our Team FB Group, Sassy and Successful Avon Representatives, is a great place to start! You don't have to be a member of my team to join, just an Avon Representative.
Social Media - You definitely want to join at least one social media platform under your business name to start out, preferably two platforms. The standard to start off with is a Facebook business page. It's easy to set up and you can manage it from your personal account you already have. I also highly recommend Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Google+, Youtube, LinkedIn, and StumbleUpon. The easiest way to go about this so you don't get overwhelmed is to take each platform you want a presence on one at a time. Get to know the platform and how it works and build up your audience/followers. When you feel like you have it down, move on and tackle the next platform. You will use your social media platforms to promote your business by posting sales, coupon codes, funny stories and so on all with a link back to either your eStore or your blog. You can also post your own contact information if you would rather deal with your customers face-to-face.
Blogging - Blogging is something you might want to look into if you would like to gain more online customers. It's not easy at first because there is a hard learning curve and you have to be willing to put the large amount of time into learning how it works and how to be successful but if you are willing, it is worth the effort. At first, writing your posts will take time because you want quality over quantity which means topic research, keywords, SEO, linking, and producing quality images to pair with your post. It goes a little faster as you get the hang of it. The key is consistency and promoting.
Organization - Being organized is key when running your Avon business. Between product sales, demos, sample bundles (bombitas), all the incentive opportunities you can earn, product on hand (because you couldn't pass up that GREAT deal they had going on Deal of the Day. lol), on top of all the paperwork, supplies (bags, order books, samples) and customer orders, things can start to get a little cluttered. You have to figure out a system to keep it all organized. I like using those plastic organization towers with the pull out drawers you find in the plastic tote/bin section at your local Walmart or Target. Some people designate a closet while the really lucky representatives can designate an entire room to their Avon Business! If you stay organized, your business will run so much more smoothly.
